Amiata

The mountain Amiata is between Siena and Grosseto. With its hights of 1138 metres, dominate to the north Val d'Orcia (Montalcino, Montepulciano and Pienza) and o the east Siena hills (Chiusi e Chianciano) and to south-west the wide plain of Maremma (Scansano, Cinigiano e Pitigliano).
The main localities are: Abbadia San Salvatore, Arcidosso, Roccalbenga, Santa Flora, Radicofani and Semproniano.

Amiata is a unique territory. The variety offered is its richness. Someone loves it for walking in nature, someone loves it because he wants to relax, thanks to spa, good food and pure air. Someone choose it to feel the ancient magic atmosphere rich in history, art and old traditions. There are a lot of activities you can do in this wonderful area: you can go in the forest, cross river, visit caves, cover a territory full of plants and animals and visit the park Parco Faunistico dell'Amiata, Riserva Naturale del Pigelleto and Parco minerario dell'Amiata. But it is possible also to know museums and art works, that are traces of the past which is still present, visiting a medioeval borough at Piancastagnaio; there is also another village, just become the first bread borough in Italy, at Roccalbegna.

The zone is famous for the production of chestnuts, oil, wines, mushrooms and truffles. Among the typical specialities is pandolce di castagne. From Amiata is also cinta senese, a race from which you can have meats and prosciutti. In the restaurants are always game specialities, that in Tuscany is especially wild boar. Among the meat specialities are scottiglia served on bread and buglione prepared with remainers.
