The region of the Chianti is between Florence and Siena. In the territory of Florence already in Medici era, the wine became the main economic resource, so were constructed numerous country houses, most of them you can admire still today and with the farm holidays it is possible to spend here your holiday. The best known street to cover in order to visit Chianti is the Chiantigiana Road. It begins to the south of the Arno river in Siena direction.
The most important villages that belongs to Chianti fiorentino are: Barberino Val'Elsa, Tavernelle Val di Pesa, Greve in Chianti and Impruneta.
Greve in Chiantiis the main village of the zone. The main public square of Greve, with its original shape of irregular triangle delimited by beautiful loggiati, is still today an important exchange point, in particular in occasion of the Extension Market of the Chianti Classico that carries out every year in september. The castle of Montefioralle dominates Greve and it maintains intact the original structure of the medieval village with a narrow street road that turns ring-like until catching up the little church of S. Stefano, where is an interesting Madonna with the Child of 1200. Notable also the castles of Uzzano, Verrazzano, Vicchiomaggio and Lamole.
Already inhabited in etruscan and roman age, during the Middle Ages Impruneta was tied to the political and economic events of Florence. The true center of the community of Impruneta was Pieve di S. Maria, founded in 1060, that became divenne in little time an important sanctuary. The pieve, originally in Romanesque style, it endured in the course of the numerous centuries reconstructions, so to conserve currently only the cripta, while the church introduces a sober aspec of Reinassancet. At its inside are conserved important works by artists like Michelozzo and Luca della Robbia and here you can worship a miraculous icona of the Madonna that the tradition wants painted by the Evangelista Luca.
