Etruscan Coast (Costa degli Etruschi)

The zone Costa degli Etruschi is really big, but the main part in the zone is situated in the cost and beside the wonderful natural oasi of Bolgheri, are the beautiful pinewood of Cecina and Donoratico; the hills of Bibbona, Bolgheri and Monte Calvi, with the mediterrenean vegetation and the chetsnuts trees. The historical-cultural interest is on the medioeval boroughs of Castagneto Carducci, Suvereto and Campiglia Marittima, that keep their anvcient walls and fortified buildings.

In Monte Calvi zone was, since etruscan age- as the rest of some furnaces - an important activity of extraction and minerals working. Another interesting centre is the promontory of Piombino Piombino, which in the northern part is full of naturalistic and archeological aspects: the marvallous gulf of Baratti and tha necroplis of Populonia, the ancient Populonia, the only etruscan city born as sea commerce base near Elba island. To be marked is the presence of many natural parks, for example Parco di Rimigliano of S. Vincenzo.

This coast part called Costa degli Etruschi is an unique occasion to taste all the elements that make Maremma a land bitter and sweet together. In Costa degli Etruschi you can really know the two souls of tuscan food: meat and fish, country and sea. The most famous fish dish is Cacciucco. Near the sea tradition are still 'trattorie', lplaces where you can taste the wild boar together with good local wines. The DOC label are three: Montescudaio, Bolgheri, al di Cornia. The wine road Costa degli Etruschi has a lot of itineraries in the boroughs, pievi, old farm and wine cellars in the hidden spots of the country.
