Turistic informations of Montecatini Terme

The renewed termal city was founded by the second half of 700 for initiative of the granduca Pietro Leoplodo, in a area cleared in order to value the ancient water sources. The urban plan stuctures itself upon tree-lined aces which linked the baths. During '900 Montecatini Terme saw its fame asserting even abroad, it began in this way the construction of hotels and equipments of entertainment. Everything in liberty style, which was substituted after the second post-war period.

The city centre of Montecatini Terme: The atmosphere of the beginning of the century remains in the urbanistic plan which is set up on the airy viale Verdi, where you can find also Palazzo Comunale, Palazzina Regia and other termal plants, in the big turistic and termal infrastructures, dipped in waste and well cured gardens, in the lively cultural and public initiatives that go well with the aristocratic tone. The main square is piazza del Popolo in which you can find Locanda Maggiore, the church of S. Maria Assunta which receives Crocifisso di Sauro Cavallini. To be visited is Accademia d'Arte with its museum that collects about 200 works come from donations from artists, agencies and privates.
